The Unfinished Marathon

The Unfinished Marathon

“Sometimes, stepping back takes more strength than pushing forward.”

I’ve been meaning to write this for a while. Life, as it sometimes does, took an unexpected turn—and I’ve found it difficult to put words to what I’ve been feeling. But I know I owe you an update.

When I first signed up for the London Marathon, it was with great enthusiasm and a deeply personal sense of purpose. The cause—Diabetes UK—meant a great deal to me. I was excited to take you on that journey, to share the highs and lows of training, and to show what’s possible when we commit to something bigger than ourselves.

But life had other plans. Not long after registering, my father’s health took a serious turn. He had been living with late-stage cancer, and I made the difficult decision to cancel my marathon place so I could focus entirely on being there for him.

Even with that decision made, nothing could have prepared me for how quickly things changed. His passing came much sooner than any of us expected.

It’s been an incredibly difficult period, and while my heart was in the marathon, my world shifted—and I had to honour that.

To those of you who supported this journey, shared your encouragement, or donated to Diabetes UK—thank you. Your kindness meant more than I can express, and I hope you know that your support is still part of something meaningful.

Although this particular marathon remains unfinished, the spirit of the journey lives on.

This spring, we’re channelling that same energy and purpose into something new. We’ve launched a series of holistic wellness programmes—designed to meet people where they are. Whether you’re walking, running, stretching, breathing, or simply starting again after life has knocked you down, we’re creating space for it.

Together, we’re building a movement that’s about more than finish lines. It’s about resilience, compassion, and taking gentle steps forward—even when it’s hard.

Thank you for walking (and sometimes pausing) with me.
